These portable oil lamps and candle holders can be folded into a small space for easy carrying. Bottom left are two examples of a type of oil lamp dating back to the 16th century. A screw cap over the wick spout prevents spillage in transit. Upper right, an adjustable brass candlestick is shown in open and closed positions. Two of the brass folding lamps are from Kyoto in Japan and are dated 1967. The top left example could be attached to the lapel of a coat, or a seat-back by railway travellers.
